Future is all white for Gibbs

Scott Gibbs has promised to see out his three-year contract with Swansea despite confirming his retirement from international rugby.

As we revealed yesterday, 30-year-old Gibbs has played his last game for Wales after winning 53 caps in a 10-year Test career.

?The time was right,? said Gibbs. ?It was a difficult decision but it was my decision.

?The time is right for somebody else to be given an opportunity, but I will finish with Swansea and see out my three years with the Whites.?

Gibbs made his Wales debut as a 19-year-old against England in 1991 and brought up his half century of caps in last season?s Six Nations.

He toured with the Lions three times ? in 1993, 1997 and 2001 ? and was man of the series against South Africa in 1997. Alan Phillips, the Wales team manager, said: ?What he has done for Wales has been fantastic. His match-winning try against England will always be remembered and he is right up there as one of the greats.? Gibbs was left out by Wales coach Graham Henry for tonight?s friendly against Romania, a game in which captain David Young has a score to settle.

Young, the only survivor from the Wales side beaten 12-9 by Romania in Cardiff back in 1988, said: ?Romania have been to Cardiff twice and won both games so it?s time to put things right.?
