Funnell out of equestian championships

Showjumper William Funnell has been forced to withdraw from Britain's World Equestrian Games.

His mare, Cortiflex Amber du Montois, bruised a front-leg tendon at the Royal Dublin Horse Show last weekend.

Team manager Derek Ricketts said: "I am terribly disappointed, she deserved a place in the team for Spain."

Cheshire's in-form Richard Davenport, with Grand Marnier, has been added to the shortlist to take part in the Games.

Davenport trains with Holland's Jan Tops at Valkensward.
