Fulham 'want to be cut-price Charlton'

Chris Coleman wants Fulham to emulate the success that tomorrow's opponents Charlton have enjoyed in the Premiership, but the Welshman admits it will have to be done on a much different budget.

"I think what Charlton have done with the stadium and the fact that their crowds have got bigger is something that we need to look to," said the Fulham manager.

"They are now pushing for a top-six place in the Premiership, but you have to remember that didn't happen overnight.

"I can't go out and buy four or five players for £2million, those days are in the past. There's money to spend but we have got to be careful. I could go out and buy one player for £3m maybe, but that would have to be a striker who is going to score us 20 goals a season."

Meanwhile, Coleman has dismissed reports that Andy Cole is disgruntled at losing the captaincy to Lee Clark.

"Absolute pile of nonsense," he added. "Andy always knew that Lee Clark was the club captain and would take over when he returned.
