Fulham close in on Aussie winger Elrich

The 23-year-old, who is rated as one of Australia's most promising young players, has attracted interest from Birmingham and Blackburn but Fulham look set to win the race for the pacey right-winger.

Elrich, who was born in Australia but is of Lebanese descent, has not played any club football since last November after he walked out on Korean side Busan Icons following a contract dispute. However, after impressing while on trial at Craven Cottage, Fulham are now keen to sign Elrich, who is expected to cost around £250,000.

"Fulham like what they have seen and Ahmad is very happy," said Elrich's agent, Dean Sheehan. "We are now waiting for the two clubs to agree terms and we hope that will be done within the next few days."

Blackburn, who already have two Australians - Lucas Neill and Brett Emerton - were thought to be favourites to sign Elrich. However, Sheehan said: "To suggest Blackburn have been snubbed is not true. Fulham merely got there first and thus have first option on Ahmad."
