"He was playing me out wide and I hadn't played there before. The boss is brilliant when he's coaching on the training ground. I hope I've learned and become a little better."
It is a role that Ljungberg now relishes and for Wenger he has been a revelation.
"Freddie is a symbol of a team that never gives up. When you think he is tired somehow he always finds some reserves," he said.
"When you see the ball at his feet in the box you know he can turn quickly and finish. Sven knows him really well. He can be a problem for England."
With the Football Writers' Player of the Year Robert Pires out injured, 23-year-old Ljungberg has certainly grabbed the limelight away from strikers Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp in recent weeks.
He also reflects a telling statistic that Arsenal now have five players who have scored ten goals or more this season. United have three and Liverpool only two.
Meanwhile, Sol Campbell is winning his battle to be fit for the FA Cup Final against Chelsea. The progress of the England defender will boost Arsenal as they push for the Premiership and FA Cup double.
Campbell was injured during the FA Cup semi-final win over Middlesbrough and will miss tomorrow's game against West Ham. However, there is a chance he may be fit for next Monday's clash at Bolton.
