Fox Sports Australia apologises for Hitler NRL joke after viewers slam 'offensive' segment

Fox Sports Australia have apologised after an image of Adolf Hitler was broadcast among fans watching an Australian Rugby League game.

Fans were able to pay A$22 towards, with A$1 going towards charity, to have their face on a cardboard cutout in the stands, with coronavirus restrictions prevents supporters from attending games.

However, an image of Hitler appeared to be photoshopped among fans during a round-up of the ‘Fan in the Stands’ initiative by the broadcaster.

"Fox Sports is very concerned by an incident involving an inappropriate image shown as part of a segment discussing NRL crowd cutouts," a statement from the broadcaster read.

"We are currently reviewing the circumstances and examining the action we need to ensure those involved understand it is not acceptable. We sincerely apologise for the offence the image has caused."

Hitler's appearance was not the only NRL controversy over the weekend.

A picture of Harold Shipman, one of the most prolific serial killers in modern history, was on show at Sunday's game between Penrith Panthers and Newcastle Knights.
