Formula One greats renew rivalries

Alain Prost and Emerson Fittipaldi are making single-seater comebacks in a motor racing version of a seniors' championship.

Seniors' competitions have proved a success in golf and tennis, with stars of the past reliving rivalries.

Now a London businessman is putting together a televised series that could see Formula One greats again compete on circuits around the world.

Scott Poulter has signed up British Grand Prix winner Johnny Herbert, former world champion Alan Jones, of Australia, flamboyant Frenchman Rene Arnoux, Swede Stefan Johansson and Christian Danner, of Germany.

Negotiations are close to being concluded for 50-year-old Prost to drive in the first race, at Kyalami in South Africa on 13 November. And, at the age of 58, Fittipaldi has asked for a test run ahead of a possible racing return in a six-round championship planned for next year that will include a race on a British circuit.

Poulter has also discussed his Grand Prix Masters concept with Nigel Mansell, winner of titles in Formula One and Indy Car racing.
