West Ham confirm 60,000 capacity for London Stadium in time for Brighton clash

The capacity of the London Stadium is now officially 60,000 after West Ham were granted the requisite safety certificate to increase the number of seats available for home games.

The visit of Brighton to east London on January 2 will be the first match to have a 60,000 attendance, a 3,000 increase on its previous cap.

West Ham made several thousand half-season tickets available last season following an agreement with stadium operators LS185. All have sold out.

“It is a wonderful feeling to know that more of our fans will be able to watch affordable Premier League football at London Stadium, and we look forward to the matchday atmosphere becoming even more magnificent in 2019,” said joint-chairmen David Sullivan and David Gold.

West Ham hope to eventually push the capacity of the former Olympic stadium to 66,000, which would give the Hammers the biggest club ground in the capital.

The Emirates Stadium currently holds 60,260 fans whilst Tottenham’s new stadium will have a capacity of 62,062.
