Tottenham outcast Vincent Janssen made his first appearance for the club since August 2017 as the striker featured in Spurs' Under-23 clash against Liverpool on Monday night.

Janssen, 24, joined Spurs from Dutch side AZ in a £17million deal back but 2016, but scored just two goals in 24 Premier League appearances as he struggled to adapt to English football.

The Netherlands international spent the 2017-18 season on loan at Fenerbahce, but suffered a lengthy injury layoff which restricted his chances to impress in Turkey.

Spurs have been unable to offload the striker in recent transfer windows, and Janseen was not issued with a squad number for the 2018-19 campaign as he faced a further injury absence due to surgery for a football problem.

Janssen's last Tottenham appearance came almost a year-and-a-half ago, but the forward returned as Spurs' U23s side hosted Liverpool in Monday's Premier League 2 clash in Stevenage.

Janssen lasted 45 minutes and was taken off at half-time, though his future at the club remains unclear.
