Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino admits his side must 'improve quickly' after Stoke defeat

With just two wins from their last nine league games, Spurs appear to have completely lost their way and Pochettino acknowledges that it’s not good enough.

“It's clear from the results that we need to improve, we need to improve a lot," Pochettino said.

"It's another defeat and we need to improve, this is clear to see.

"In football you always need time to implement different methods but we need to improve quickly because you never have a long time in football.

"You need to get results and we need to find a solution quickly. My challenge in the next few weeks is to change the mentality and to find that solution."

The Tottenham boss had appeased supporters with his team selection as fan’s favourite Harry Kane was given a starting berth ahead of Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor.

And it was almost a dream start for Pochettino as Chadli’s cross provided Kane with a golden opportunity to give Spurs the lead in the opening moments, but the in-form striker could only direct his header straight at Begovic.

Spurs were made to pay instantly as Bojan was afforded far too much space as he ran from the halfway line before firing Stoke into the lead from the edge of the box.

The Argentine was left rueing Kane’s miss as Stoke never looked back after taking the lead.

"It was disappointing and frustrating. A very bad result,” he said.

“It is a shame because we started the game great, but once we conceded the first goal it all changed, we took rash decisions and looked uncomfortable on the ball and made a lot of mistakes.

"We were more comfortable in the second half but then 2-0 down it is difficult. We scored but in the end it was a very disappointing result and in the next few days we will try to find a solution and change our mentality.

"Stoke worked hard. When you are up in a game your motivation is full and maybe we are very disappointed and frustrated and our players feel that frustration. We need to look forward, work hard, change and find the solution. That is my job."
