Toto Schillaci thinks Ciro Immobile can repeat his feat

Toto Schillaci believes Ciro Immobile can emulate him by becoming Italy’s surprise trump card at the World Cup.

Schillaci went into Italia ’90 with just one cap but the then Juventus striker took the finals by storm, winning the Golden Boot after scoring six goals.

The talk in Italy is that Immobile could be their Schillaci in Brazil after the striker hit a hat-trick in their final warm-up fixture with Fluminense on Sunday.

That was his third appearance for the Azzurri — his first cap was only in March — and comes after a season in which his 22 goals for Torino earned him a £16million move to Borussia Dortmund.

“There are prerequisites for Immobile to be Cesare Prandelli’s secret card,” Schillaci told Corriere dello Sport today.

“He has played and scored a lot this season, he is in excellent shape and has great enthusiasm just as I did in 1990. He is fast, sees the goal like few others, but in particular, does not have the spotlight on him.
