Manchester United were still 1-0 down following Mario Basler's early free-kick .Four minutes added time had just been shown by the assistant referee when Teddy Sheringham scored from a corner 36 seconds into added time; United looked to have rescued the game and taken it into extra time. However, from the kick off they stole the ball and forced another corner. Sheringham got his head to the ball which then fell to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who sent the ball into the roof of the net at 92:17. The goal was so devastating that the Bayern players could not bring themselves to stand up to restart the game.

2. Liverpool v. West Ham 2006

This game has been dubbed The Gerrard Final,' and the greatest FA Cup final in history. Liverpool went 2-0 down inside the first half hour, however they fought back to level the game at 2-2 before Paul Konchesky put West Ham in the lead again. Having scored Liverpool's second goal, Steven Gerrard began to suffer from cramp with only minutes remaining. However, he managed to find the back of the net from 37 yards out to beat the helpless West Ham keeper in the 91st minute. The goal destroyed the West Ham players psychologically and Liverpool were able to take the game through to penalties where they won.

Against Greece in October 2001 England needed to match Germany's result against Finland to qualify for the 2002 World Cup and avoid a difficult play-off game against Ukraine. England struggled and after 69 minutes they were 2-1 down. All that was needed was a draw as Germany had also been struggling in their game. But as time ticked on England could not find a breakthrough. Deep into injury time the Greeks gave away a free-kick and David Beckham stood up to take it. Antonis Nikopolidis, the Greek keeper, had previously been equal to all of Beckham's set pieces and had kept his side in the game. However, this time there was nothing he could do as Beckham's strike flew into the back of the net in the 93rd minute and secured England's place in the World Cup finals.

4. Liverpool v. Arsenal 1989

The game between Arsenal and Liverpool had been put off until the 26 May, after the FA Cup final, because of the Hillsborough disaster. This created the unique situation of a League title play-off. Arsenal need to win 2-0 to claim the title and stop Liverpool from winning a League and FA Cup double. As the game entered the last minute Arsenal were leading 1-0 and it looked like Liverpool had done enough. However, Michael Thomas received the ball and dribbled through the Liverpool defence to score in the last minute of the last game of the season, making it 2-0 Arsenal and ensuring they won the league.

5. Arsenal v. Real Zaragoza 1995

This game was the setting for one of the most extraordinary last minute goals in football history. The match had been at stalemate throughout with Zaragoza scoring first and then Arsenal pulling back to make it 1-1 and take it into extra time. With only seconds left before a penalty shoot-out the Zaragoza midfielder Nayim picked up the ball on the halfway line and, seeing David Seaman off his line, struck the ball on the volley to beat the stranded Arsenal keeper and win the cup for Zaragoza.

6. Chelsea v. Barcelona 2009

Chelsea took a 0-0 score at Camp Nou into their home leg against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final with high hopes. Chelsea went 1-0 up early on with a strike from Michael Essien and seemed to be in control. There was much controversy as the referee ignored a series of seemingly blatant penalty appeals for both teams and then sent off Eric Abidal unfairly. With Barcelona down to 10 men and only seconds of injury time remaining Andres Iniesta shot from the edge of the area and found the top right hand corner to equalise for Barcelona and send Chelsea out of the competition on away goals.

7. Liverpool v. Olympiakos 2004

After a stuttering group stage, Liverpool needed to beat Olympiakos by two clear goals to advance to the last 16. With only a few minutes of normal time remaining Liverpool were leading 2-1 and in desperate need of another goal. In the 86th minute Neil Mellor laid the ball off to Steven Gerrard on the edge of the penalty area and the midfielder shot low into the bottom corner to make it 3-1 and secure Liverpool's progression in the competition, which they would go on to win.
