Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge believes that Thomas Muller will "never" leave the Bundesliga champions.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to Manchester United this summer after Louis van Gaal hinted at the possibility that the Red Devils could make a "surprise" signing to bolster their frontline.

Muller joined Bayern at the age of 10 and the World Cup winner has gone on to establish himself as a pivotal member of Pep Guardiola's side.

Rummenigge has quashed talk of the Germany international's proposed exit and suggested that he cannot envisage the forward leaving the Allianz Arena, even once he has retired.

"I get the feeling that Thomas will never leave FC Bayern.

"And when Thomas does call it a day, we would also like to keep him as as part of the club," Rummenigge declared.

Muller scored 13 goals in 32 Bundesliga appearances last season and his impressive performances have put him in the frame for a contract extension.

"We have already accounted for it last year, at that time he had contract for another three years.

Ahead of time, we prolonged it for another two years, and increased his salary. The one thing does not rule out the other. Let's wait and see," Rummenigge said.
