The 32-year-old had not played for a month since France were eliminated from the World Cup and looked rusty before he was replaced by Tony Tchani at half-time.
Second-half efforts from Robbie Keane and Gareth Bale were enough to secure the win for Spurs but Henry added: "I think, hopefully, the goals are going to come.
"It's not just about goals. It's about helping the team and I'm trying to work to be as fit as soon as I can . . . I wasn't running a lot defensively but that's going to come when I'm fit."
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, without 10 first-team players who have been given time off after the World Cup, was delighted with the win and also impressed by Henry's display.
"The young guy up front first half — he looks like he has a good future," Redknapp joked. "He's fantastic," he added. "He's a different class. He's still a world-class player."
