"But I thought the keeper did well with the second one. I have been training for the last two months, where I haven't missed a session. I have no problems with my fitness."
The news will come as a relief to United fans but does not completely allay fears over Rooney's form and state of mind. He has scored only one goal from open play this season and that came for England in Switzerland, not in the red shirt of his club side.
But he defended his own and England's performance against Montenegro last night after the team were booed off following the 0-0 draw. "It was a difficult game," he added.
"They had a lot of men behind the ball and were well organised. But we kept going and created chances; maybe we should have done better with them but I thought the keeper did well.
"In the end it's a bonus we never got beat, because they had a shot against the bar in the final moments. But we're still unbeaten in the group, at least that's a positive. It wasn't bad, I thought we deserved to win."
Rooney also hit out at German referee Manuel Grafe who turned down a strong penalty claim when Milan Jovanovic blatantly used his hand to control a cross from Ashley Cole.
He said: "I thought it was a definite handball and I don't think the referee did us any favours. We as players felt there was no protection whatsoever. But you have to deal with these things."
Meanwhile, captain Rio Ferdinand has sent out a message to England supporters to stick with the team in difficult times.
"My message is just to stay behind us," he said. "We know they pay their hard-earned money to come and watch us and it's up to us to perform and make them happy.
"We are trying to do that; we don't go out there to draw or lose games, we go out there to try and win games. We'll continue to do that and we need the fans with us."
