Taking a closer look at Liverpool

It's not quite warts and all in the style of 1994's 'An Impossible Job', featuring the ill-fated England reign of Graham Taylor, but 'Being Liverpool' still provides football fans with an intriguing look behind-the-scenes of a Premier League club.

The six-part documentary, which begins tomorrow night on Channel 5, has been billed as a series that takes viewers deep inside the inner workings of one of the world's legendary sports franchises.

It kicks-off in inspirational mode with a look inside the dressing room as the Reds prepare for their season opener against West Brom.

Once there, we find new boss Brendan Rodgers ready to deliver his team-talk.

"Today's the start of a long hard journey for us", the new man tells his charges. "And I've never ever once said it's going to be easy. If it was easy it wouldn't be worth doing". Indeed it wasn't and still isn't easy - Liverpool lost the match 3-0.

Narrated by, and given the necessary gravitas by King Arthur himself - actor Clive Owen, the action is not all just about a look round Anfield either.

A relaxed captain Steven Gerrard takes viewers around his plush pad while there's also time for Lucas Leiva, Luis Suarez and Sebastian Coates to share cakes and bananas in the Brazilian midfielder's living room as the new season approaches.

Lucas is a leading figure throughout the opening episode, as he bids to regain fitness following a long-term injury. Cue plenty of painful looking stretching and fitness work in the club's gym.
