Morgan Schneiderlin 6
Always available to receive the ball, tidy with good vision. Clever player but faded in influence as Spurs pushed forward in the second half.

Jay Rodriguez 6
Should have done better with his curling 24th minute shot that showcased Southampton’s high intensity pressing ethos after Rose was forced into a mistake. Busy but similar to many of his team mates faded in the second half.

Steven Davis 6
The Northern Ireland international held his shape well and worked hard when team lost possession even if he was overwhelmed in the second half by the visitors attacking intent. Subbed for Ramirez on 70 minutes.

Adam Lallana 8
Perfect example of a hard working forward as he set the tone for Southampton pressing Spurs. Always lively with good feet and superb energy levels. Great touch and turn to tee up a low shot for his 13th minute goal even if you could argue Spurs gave him far too much space between the lines to run into. Brilliant run in behind Dawson to provide Lambert with a tap in for Saints second. A class act.

Ricky Lambert 7
Early free kick, held the ball up well, always a muscular presence in the air and robust on the deck. Always gives 100% but just lacks that extra yard of pace that all great forwards require. Scored Saints second but Lallana should claim most of the credit for it through his persistence and vision.

On for Davis on 70 minutes. Caught in two minds on whether to hit a shot or chip it from 35 yards out, and ended up doing neither.

James Ward-Prowse 5
The highly rated young England prospect replaced Cork on 64th minute but struggled to get into the high tempo game.

Sam Gallagher 5
The young striker replaced Danny Fox in the 80th minute. Good movement to find space in the box but no fairy-tale as fired off a weak shot that Lloris gathered easily.

Hugo Lloris 6
Early stop from Lambert’s free kick. Good distribution from the ex-Lyon man but he could have done better for Lallana’s goal? Normally an excellent reader of the game in knowing when to come off his line but made a mistake in being too eager in rushing out for Lambert’s goal.

Kyle Walker 7
Useful on the overlap including dangerous pull-backs from the byline, but also used his athleticism and pace to repel rapid counter attacks from the Saints. Good game for the England man.

Michael Dawson 6
Initial nervy back passes but the Spurs captain grew in composure as the game progressed.

Vlad Chiriches 5
Missed the last three games with a knee problem – did he return too soon as struggled to impose himself on the dynamic Saints forwards. Got caught on the wrong side of Lallana for the first goal.

Danny Rose 7
Always eager to push forward, used the ball well offensively and committed in defence. Forced the own goal with his pace and invention in the channel.

Erik Lamela 6
Keen to contribute to the cause and looked lively in spells, but appeared to be caught in two minds when it came to the final ball. Intent to tackle but gave away too many free kicks in dangerous areas.

Moussa Dembele 6
Showed tactical discipline, important interceptions and effective use of the ball going forward. Went off injured after 50 mins.

Gylfi Sigurdsson 6
Tried to tuck in to leave Rose space going forward which may have contributed to Chambers surging attacking runs in the first half which troubled Spurs initially. Booked for a foul on Davis as Saints looked to break.

Christian Eriksen 6
Always looked to get involved in a hectic game. Good tracking back when he denied Lallana the opportunity to shoot in a dangerous area with the game finely poised at 1-1.

Emmanuel Adebayor 9
Played like a man reborn against a Southampton team that always worked hard as it was crucial he matched their effort to make Sherwood’s attacking 4-4-2 formation work effectively. Great movement to get in behind the Saints centre halves and executed his goal perfectly with an athletic right foot hooked shot. Capitalised from a ricochet in the box with a low left footed drive for Spurs' third and his second. The best he has performed over 90 minutes in a very long time.

Roberto Soldado 7
Was off the pace early on with misplaced passes but ran in behind the Saints defence well and provided a fantastic delivery in whipping in the ball for Adebayor’s first goal. Held the ball up well and ran with intent. Snatched at a 65th shot when he could have scored and should have finished a sweeping move minutes late. Subbed by Defoe 85th minute.

Nabir Bentaleb 7
The inexperienced French Algerian centre midfielder was handed a difficult task to impose himself after Dembele’s enforced 50th minute substitution and shone in his league debut with some bright attacking play.
