Standard Sport assesses the individual performances from Tottenham's 1-0 victory over Sheffield United at White Hart Lane.

It was always going to be a fiercely fought contest at the Lane, but Mauricio Pochettino would have hoped for more daylight going into next Wednesday's return leg at Bramall Lane.

In truth, Spurs were somewhat fortunate to come away from the match with a victory at all, with Andros Townsend's second half penalty proving the decisive factor in the match.

Both Spurs and the Blades could have been reduced to ten men. First off, Emmanuel Adebayor - making his first Tottenham start since November 9th - flung an arm in the direction of Louis Reed, but only a yellow card was awarded.

Likewise, in the second half -and having already collected a booking - James McEveley's costly handball could have resulted in the United's defenders marching orders.
