Tom Cleverley, Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia came in for Adnan Januzaj, Marouane Fellaini and the cup-tied Juan Mata.
Olympiakos included Arsenal loanee Joel Campbell in their side while 21-year-old Nigerian Michael Olaitan started up front instead of top-scorer Javier Saviola, who missed out with a thigh injury.
