Jake Hyde seeks safety after Barnet's stirring finish

Barnet’s celebrations at Underhill last weekend were worthy of a League-winning side but Jake Hyde insists his team-mates are under no illusions going into their crucial relegation tie with Northampton.

There were emotional scenes as the Bees bid farewell to their home of 106 years but Hyde claims that, while he savoured the 1-0 win over Wycombe, it will count for nothing if his side do not finish the job at Sixfields tomorrow.

“Last week was an amazing occasion and an historic day for the club,” said Hyde, who scored the winner. “The crowd were brilliant but it will all be for nothing if we don’t get our heads right and go into this game confidently.

“We know what we have to do and if we don’t do it we’ll get relegated.”

The Bees were rooted to the bottom of League Two in the first half of the season but, after 10 wins from their last 23 matches, Edgar Davids’s side have done enough to put their Football League future in their own hands. Hyde has been a crucial weapon in the Barnet armoury and the striker, who has 14 goals this season, says it would be devastating for the club’s recovery to be undone on the final day of the campaign.

“The boys had a chat the other day and this means everything to us,” added Hyde.

“Every single hour on the training pitch, every single game, all that pain comes down to this.

“We had a terrible start to the season and we worked so hard to claw ourselves back, that it would just be devastating to go down.

“All that hard work would be for nothing and it would be horrible.”
