It’s striking how badly Fulham need Greece ace Mitroglou

Fulham are closing in on a £12million deal for Greece striker Konstantinos Mitroglou and, on this evidence, they need him badly.

In truth it was not just the Fulham strikers who were off form last night but the whole team as they showed a lack of ambition or intent for a game Steve Sidwell claimed before kick-off was one they could ill-afford to lose.

Coach Rene Meulensteen has been looking for a striker throughout the January window and it appears he has found his man in Mitroglou.

The 25-year-old has hit 20 goals this season and fired Greece to the World Cup finals, scoring three goals over two legs against Romania.

His arrival could lead to the departure of Dimitar Berbatov, who has been linked with a return to Tottenham. One player who may be on his way is Adel Taarabt, who has attracted interest from AC Milan.

Taarabt is on loan from Queens Park Rangers until the end of the season but AC Milan want to take up the rest of that agreement with defender Cristian Zaccardo moving to Fulham until May.
