Good week, bad week

We round up who had a memorable weekend of sport, and those who had one to forget.

GOOD WEEK

West Brom
The Baggies bagged a brilliant point at the weekend. Edwin Van der Sar's spill may have been the deciding factor in West Brom securing a draw with Manchester United but luck is always needed at Old Trafford. "We have every right to celebrate," reflected West Brom's manager, Roberto Di Matteo.

Tottenham
Spurs took home the bragging rights and three vital points from their London derby with Fulham on Saturday – despite controversy stalking the headlines. With the score at 1-1, Tottenham's Tom Huddlestone drove his shot past traffic in the box just after the hour mark, yet team-mate William Gallas appeared offside. After an on-field conference call with the referees, the goal stood and Spurs secured the win. It seemed farcical for Fulham, but sublime for Spurs.

Arsenal
The Gunners came back from a goal down to depose Birmingham 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium. Samir Nasri and Marouane Chamakh got the decisive goals for the Gunners. "I'm happy that we came back today with three points," said Arsene Wenger, who had just managed Arsenal for the eight hundredth time as the club earned their 1,700th top-flight victory.

Newcastle
Fabricio Coloccini's last-gasp header saved Newcastle from the clutches defeat on Saturday. 2-1 down at home to Wigan, The Toon rallied and four minutes into injury time, the defender struck. "What we have got in this side is great character," reflected the Magpies' manager, Chris Hughton.

Carlos Tevez
The Argentine was instrumental in Manchester City's win over Blackpool. His flicked finish and his deflected shot helped secure Roberto Mancini's side an important 3-2 win at Bloomfield Road, much to the mirth of City supporters.

BAD WEEK

FIFA
The Sunday Times reported that two officials from FIFA offered to sell their votes in the contest to host the 2018 World Cup. Just when sport was trying to recover from cricket's spot-fixing revelations, these allegations in football could be equally damaging.
