Fabio Capello warns World Cup hopefuls over diving

Fabio Capello today joined the debate over diving by insisting he would not tolerate any England players indulging in gamesmanship at next summer's World Cup finals, regardless of the high stakes.

"I don't like players to dive, ever," said the Italian. "I always speak to my players about this. Sometimes the decisions of the referees are not correct, and that's not good, but I don't like divers.

"You have to be correct and go with the spirit of the sport. I cannot kill him [a player that dives] but I don't like diving."

Capello secured England's place at next summer's World Cup with two games to spare, but believes his greatest achievement so far has been to banish the climate of "fear" spawned by their failure to qualify for the Euro 2008 championships under his predecessor Steve McClaren.

Capello, speaking at the Global Sport Summit this morning, said: "I remember, when I arrived here, the first training session we had. I was surprised because the players were really good!

"And I thought: 'What has happened here? These are good players, why are they not playing at the European Championships?'
