The Toffees went into the half-time break with a 2-0 lead, as goals from Seamus Coleman and Steven Naismith put them firmly in control.
Arsenal struggled to break the hosts down in the second half, but with seven minutes remaining, Aaron Ramsey popped up to score from close range and get his side back into the game.
Substitute Olivier Giroud then rose to head home in the 90th minute and ensure the Gunners left with a share of the spoils.
