David Moyes thanks Manchester United fans for support during 'difficult season'

David Moyes has written an open letter to Manchester United fans thanking them for their “unwavering” support during his “difficult” first season at Old Trafford.

United have struggled to find any consistency under the Scot and are languishing in seventh place in the Premier League, 12 points off the Champions League qualification places.

While accepting the season has gone worse than expected, Moyes has praised the clubs fans for sticking with his side during the tough times.

"While I knew that this job would be a challenge when I took it on, the difficult season we have experienced was not something that I envisaged, which I am sure is the case as well for you supporters," wrote Moyes.

"My players, staff and I are desperate to compensate for that.

"Supporting your team when they are winning is easy but much harder when things are not going as well, and the loyalty you have shown us has been magnificent."

Moyes praised both the club’s home and away supporters and suggested that this season’s experiences will stand United in good stead for the future.
