Robbie Fowler, in a response to accusations of drug abuse, simulated snorting cocaine following his goal against Everton.

Federico Macheda was accused of racism following his celebration after scoring in a pre-season game in South Korea. However, the action is considered a perfectly legitimate one in European society and he did not receive any punishment.

Paolo di Canio celebrated his goals against Roma for Lazio by making fascist salutes to the right-wing Roma crowd.

Paul Gascoigne celebrated his goal against Scotland in the 1996 European Championships by lying on his back and having team-mates squirt water bottles into his mouth. He was mimicking the controversial pre-tournament incident where several England players had been seen in a nightclub in a dentist's chair having alcohol poured into their mouths.

In a similar action to Adebayor, Manchester United defender Gary Neville ran to celebrate a late Rio Ferdinand goal in front of the Liverpool fans. He was later fined for his behaviour.
