Jose Fonte insists his move to Southampton from Crystal Palace is a "step up" in his ambition to reach the Premier League.

The 26-year-old defender left the cashstrapped Championship side this week in a £1.2million deal.

Although Saints are in League One, Fonte said: "I'm really happy to be here. Don't get me wrong, I have only good memories of my time at Palace.

"This might seem like a step back but it may be two steps forward. I want to be in the Premier League as soon as I can and this can be the fastest way to get there. I've seen the ambition from the manager and the chairman."

Helguson is loaned out to Watford again

Queens Park Rangers striker Heidar Helguson has returned to former club Watford on loan for the second time this season.

Helguson had five years at Vicarage Road when he arrived in England in 2000 and has already had a three-month spell at the club this term. The Iceland international has yet to make an impact under various managers at Loftus Road and could earn himself a permanent move.

Meanwhile, Rangers midfielder Mikele Leigertwood, 27, has extended his contract until 2012.

Kenny's Cup headache

Millwall manager Kenny Jackett has a defensive dilemma for tonight's FA Cup third-round replay at Derby. Versatile Tony Craig is struggling with an ankle injury and Liam Trotter cannot play as he did not complete his loan move from Ipswich in time. Lewis Grabban is set to partner in-form Steve Morison in attack, with Gary Alexander (heel) and Neil Harris (back) sidelined.
