Charlton expect Newcastle to return with an improved offer for Robbie Elliot after rejecting a £100,000 bid for the goalkeeper.

Elliot, 25, impressed again this weekend with four outstanding saves as Charlton were held 2-2 at home to Scunthorpe.

Manager Chris Powell said: "There has been interest in Robbie that was rejected. But he's a very proud, local man who wants to better himself and I had no qualms about playing him. If Newcastle come back in we'll look at it. He's 24 and out of contract at the end of the season."

Charlton took a two-goal through headed goals from Johnnie Jackson and Bradley Wright-Phillips but Bobby Grant's late double knocked them off the top of League One.

Leyton Orient manager Russell Slade accused his side of being "fragile" after their 5-0 hammering at the hands of Brentford left them languishing at the bottom of the table without a point from their first four games.

Slade said: "We've given away soft goals again and if we don't start doing it right in both boxes we're going to cause ourselves real problems."
