Capital One Cup 5th round draw results: Liverpool face trip to Southampton

Manchester United's conquerors Middlesbrough secured a home tie against Everton after stunning Louis van Gaal's men in a penalty shoot-out on Wednesday night.

Aitor Karanka's men join Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City as the only clubs from beneath the Premier League left in the competition and will be bidding to beat the odds and edge closer to the Wembley showpiece in the fifth round.

Wednesday have been rewarded with a trip to Stoke after brushing Arsenal aside, while Hull must travel to Manchester City. Liverpool face a tough test away at Southampton in the only all-Premier League tie in the fifth round.

Wednesday's steel city rivals Sheffield United reached the last four of the League Cup last term, losing to Tottenham, but Carlos Carvalhal will be determined to go one better.

Hull, meanwhile, are in the last eight for the first time in their history, but have recent experience in the latter stages of domestic cup football. Steve Bruce's men made it to the FA Cup final in 2014, losing to Arsenal in the 2014 showpiece, but face a difficult trip to the Etihad Stadium as they look to move one step from a Wembley return this season.

The next round of matches in the Capital One Cup will take place on the week commencing November 30 2015.
