Brentford back in the FA Cup

Brentford are through to the FA Cup third round after Bradford were today thrown out of the competition for fielding an ineligible player.

The Football Association have confirmed that Bradford did not have permission to play on-loan Newcastle defender Curtis Good in last week’s 1-1 draw at Valley Parade.

A scheduled second-round replay at Griffin Park on December 18 has been cancelled and Brentford progress to play either Bury or Southend United in the next round.

Bradford have until 5pm tonight to lodge an appeal. An FA statement said: “Bradford City did not have the necessary written permission for Curtis Good to play in the competition, while on loan from Newcastle United, by the 12pm deadline on Friday, November 30 prior to the fixture that evening.”

A Bradford statement read: “The error was of an administrative technical nature and not one to intentionally break rules.”

Bury, in 2006, and Droylsden two years later, were expelled from the FA Cup for using ineligible players.
