Hard-fought: Arsenal closed the gap to Manchester City with victory

Standard Sport assesses the individual performances from Arsenal’s dominant 3-0 victory over West Ham United at home.

The Gunners' chances of finishing inside the top four of the Premier League were strengthened after three well worked goals that left home fans jubilant as they left the Emirates.

West Ham were without the regular central defensive partnership of James Tomkins and Winston Reid. James Collins and Cheikhou Kouyate filled in and weren’t convincing.

Olivier Giroud’s left-footed stinger in first-half stoppage time broke the deadlock after some brilliant build-up play from the Gunners’ midfield.

West Ham started the second half brightly but rarely threatened to beat David Ospina who had a comfortable game in the Arsenal goal.

The Gunners extended their lead with nine minutes remaining. After making his way into the West Ham box, Aaron Ramsey linked up expertly before firing past Adrian.

The three points were sealed when second half substitute Mathieu Flamini tapped into an open net following a superb pass across the West Ham six-yard box by Santi Cazorla.
