There is absolutely no need to panic yet but Charton do need to somehow drag themselves out of their post-Scott Parker depression period before a couple of sub-standard results turn into a full-scale avalanche. Alan Curbishley, meanwhile, has signed another new contract which should, in theory, keep him at The Valley for aeons. In practice, though, all it often means is that when the big clubs come knocking, as they will, they will have to fork out mega-money. Charlton will have to beware new Blackburn signing Jon Stead (above), who is fast proving he is good enough at both Premiership and England under-21 level.
