On the day when Chancellor Gordon Brown finally killed off betting tax, and racing resumed after seven days at Lingfield, the postponement is a major blow to British racing, whose finances have already been devastated by bad weather cancellations.
Rugby also suffered yesterday when Ireland's home match against England in Dublin on March 24 and their away game against Scotland on April 7 were postponed at the request of the Irish Government.
Both matches are being rearranged for early in May.
