Flavio Briatore in new call to revamp F1

Grand Prix team principal Flavio Briatore could be on a collision course with close friend and business partner Bernie Ecclestone.

Briatore leads Renault's world title challenge and is co-owner of Queens Park Rangers with Formula One supremo Ecclestone.

But the Italian believes motor racing needs new direction. He said: "F1 needs to be re-designed. I feel it should be down to the teams to decide by electing a director of operations, not a PR person."

Briatore spoke out as the 10 teams competing in the world championship agreed to form a new Formula One Teams Association. They will work with the FIA, the sport's governing body, and Ecclestone's Formula One Management, which controls F1's commercial affairs, on drawing up a new agreement.
