ARSENAL'S power, precision and professionalism saw them overcome United - with a little help from Brian McClair. Alan Smith gave Arsenal the lead and a Mike Duxbury own goal made it two. McClair pulled one back but wasted a great chance to equalise two minutes from the end when he blasted a penalty over the bar.

David Beckham put United ahead but Dennis Bergkamp equalised before seeing his injury-time penalty saved by Peter Schmeichel. Cue Ryan Giggs to run at the Arsenal defence in extra time and score one of the greatest Cup goals of all time.

ARSENAL went through to their third successive final with strikes from Edu and Sylvain Wiltord after United's 1999 hero Ryan Giggs had missed an open goal. Sir Alex Ferguson took his frustration out on a stray boot, hitting David Beckham in the face.
Not all the games are so close. In 1937 Arsenal cruised through to the fifth round, thrashing United 5-0.
