Faye ready to step out of the shadow

Arsenal defender Faye White hopes to cement her place in the England women's team when she lines up against Denmark in tonight's friendly at Northampton.

The 23-year-old centre-back is ready to step out of the shadow of Everton's Mo Marley, who retired from international football following the summer's European Championships finals.

White, a fitness instructor in Crawley, has been unable to establish herself in the starting lineup-despite having won 19 caps. But with the national team preparing for their World Cup qualifying campaign, she said: "The Denmark game gives me a great chance to show what I can do against top opposition.

"I want to keep my place for our World Cup qualifier against Germany next month."

England's defence tonight will also include Fulham teenagers Katie Chapman and Rachel Unitt and Charlton goalkeeper Pauline Cope.
