England player ratings: How ODI side fared in series clean sweep against Pakistan

England completed a 3-0 clean sweep of Pakistan in the one-day international series.

Here, Will Macpherson assesses the England squad…

Phil Salt: 8

104 runs at 35; SR 117

A big win for England. Played two spunky innings, and 69% of his runs came in boundaries. It was the manner of his work, reminiscent of Jason Roy, that stood out. Has cemented himself more chances.

Dawid Malan: 6

68 runs at 34; SR 88.

Excellent at Cardiff, but made two ducks thereafter, including walking when he did not hit a beauty from Hasan Ali at Edgbaston. Will feel an opportunity missed, and the 2023 World Cup looks beyond him.

Zak Crawley: 7

97 runs at 48.5; SR 114.

Another to buy into the team ethos, going after the bowling. It was notable how he did not appear to be in fifth gear, but scored rapidly. Caught very well.

James Vince: 9

158 runs at 79; SR 107.

Batted twice, and was superb on both occasions. Could his Edgbaston hundred be a breakthrough moment? It was hard to question how much it meant to him when listening to him afterwards.

Ben Stokes: 6

54 runs at 27; SR 100. 0 wickets in 5 overs, econ 7.4.

Did not bowl well on the rare occasions he gave himself a go. With the bat, looked utterly determined to dominate and promote England’s “brand”. Captained very well indeed.

John Simpson: 5

20 runs at 10; SR 65. 9 catches.

Looked a little out of place with the bat, and dropped a couple of tough chances. Also took some beauties, notably the one down the legside off Parkinson. Probably the least likely to be seen again by England.

Lewis Gregory: 9

117 runs at 58.5; 4 wickets at 24.5.

Had an excellent series. Picked up important powerplay wickets, especially at Lord’s, and batted like a dream at Edgbaston. An outstanding domestic cricketer advanced his reputation.
