"It was disappointing for me not to play in January because I've been fine fitness-wise. I remember Sol Campbell was in the same situation as me [with his contract] and he was playing.
"I've been training and doing my best to get back into the team but Arsene said to me 'I'm not going to involve you in the team until you sort your future out.'
"I have to respect the boss. But now I'm looking forward to the Champions League and the cups and I still think I can do a lot of things this season. I'm here to help."
As for his long term plans, Edu said: "Arsene always told everybody he wants to keep me here and (vice-chairman) David Dein told me he wants to keep me here but my contract was not what I was expecting.
"Will I stay at Arsenal? That is a difficult thing to talk about because I don't want to talk about the contract anymore."
