Edman injury fears for qualifier

Redknapp's horrific challenge on Tim Cahill left the former Millwall midfielder facing a scan on his damaged knee today.

Cahill already fears the worst and is amazed that referee Graham Poll only produced the yellow card. Cahill was red-carded earlier this season for putting his shirt over his head while celebrating Everton's winner over Manchester City. Redknapp, hardly the game's dirtiest player, was quick to apologise.

He said: "He came in quicker than I expected and as I stepped over the ball to shield him away, I caught him. It took the gloss off the win for me and I can only apologise. I feel bad, but I did not mean it."

Cahill left Goodison Park on crutches and faces an anxious wait to see if his cruciate ligaments have been damaged - an injury he suffered at Millwall two years ago.

Cahill said: "I took a touch and the ball had gone away from me. That was the weird thing - he had won the ball but trailed with his left leg and came down on the inside of my knee.

"It just buckled underneath me and I was in a lot of pain. I am worried it could be something serious. I am upset but he has apologised. I did my anterior cruciate two years ago and that's why I was so upset - it flashed through my mind that it might be the same injury.

"Look at the fiasco when I got a red for celebrating. Yet some walk away after kicking people. When he came to me, I asked him 'Why?' He said that it was just a reaction and everything happened so quickly. Everyone can see what's happened."

Spurs were lucky again when Poll opted to show Defoe a yellow card instead of red for a blatant two-footed lung at David Weir. Everton were left wondering how on earth they lost but Pamarot's second-half header was enough to keep Spurs in touch with the leaders.
