Dyer suffers another setback

England midfielder Kieron Dyer is out of Newcastle's UEFA Cup visit to Switzerland tomorrow and is struggling to make their Premiership trip to Chelsea on Sunday.

Dyer pulled up after less than 10 minutes of a routine fitness test yesterday as he attempted to recover from the hamstring injury which has kept him out of United's last four games. His absence from Sir Bobby Robson's squad which travels to Basle today and Lee Bowyer's ongoing European suspension has given Nolberto Solano another opportunity to confirm he has put an end to his feud with the Newcastle boss.

Robson had made a point of applauding the Peruvian when he was substituted during the Carling Cup defeat at home to West Bromwich last week.

Solano, who missed the home draw with Aston Villa on Saturday, had expressed his dismay at being left out at Middlesbrough last month. Defender Andy O'Brien, who also missed the Villa game, is over a bout of 'flu and should partner Titus Bramble.

Fellow centre back Jonathan Woodgate is due to play a reserve match at Birmingham tonight to continue his comeback from a double hernia operation and has not ruled out being included in the squad to face Chelsea.

Former Newcastle coach Mick Wadsworth flies to the Democratic Republic of Congo today to finalise his contract to take charge of their national team for the African Nations Cup next year.
