Duff: We must lift ourselves

Damien Duff today admitted that Chelsea will need to lift themselves for their huge clash against Manchester United on Sunday after a disappointing Champions League display against Sparta Prague.

The goalless draw at Stamford Bridge last night was enough for Chelsea to qualify for the knock-out phase but Duff indicated the dressing room had been a gloomy place after the match.

He said: "We're very disappointed with the performance and we're going to have to work on how we break teams down. Everyone is down in the dressing room. In the past month we've set high standards and we didn't meet them last night," he said. "We'll have to lift ourselves for Sunday because it's a huge game."

Duff believes Chelsea will be satisfied only when they have become the dominant force in English football. "You don't spend £150million to be runners-up," he said. "We want to win everything. It's good to be in a such a great squad and it's about being up there at the end of the season."

Chelsea will be pleased to have booked their place in the last 16 before next month's away game against Besiktas. Their final group game will take place at a neutral venue after last week's bombings in Istanbul.

It will be played at the AufSchalke Arena in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, which will also host the Champions League final.
