Ranieri has predicted "two or three" more signings following the capture of Duff and Bridge, with Inter Milan striker Christian Vieri and Manchester United midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron firmly in the frame. It is understood that Chelsea adviser Pini Zahavi is still in negotiations with Inter over Vieri despite the striker's earlier insistence that he would stay in Italy.
Even though his wage demands may prove a problem, Veron remains on Chelsea's wanted list and his £14m move could be on by the end of the week.
The club were today also linked with a £28m bid for Spanish teenager Fernando Torres. According to a Spanish newspaper, Atletico Madrid have rejected Abramovich's offer for the 19-year-old, who is one of the hottest properties in La Liga.
Newcastle today denied a report that Chelsea have made an enquiry about £20m-rated midfielder Kieron Dyer.
