Germany slipped up in Helsinki and that, coupled with our win in Greece, leaves us with the chance of topping the group. It makes tomorrow a must-win game for us but there is still immense pressure on Rudi Voller's team. Few experts give us much of a chance in the Olympic Stadium, where Germany have never lost a qualifying game.
As far as we are concerned, the buildup to this game has been as relaxed as for all the other matches under Sven-Goran Eriksson. Controlling your emotions before games like this is very important and it is no use being wound up all week and then unable to perform at the key moment.
I think it might be helpful that our coach being Swedish is more concerned with winning this match than in the history and conflict between the Germans and ourselves. He made it clear to us this week that he realises the magnitude of this fixture within our country but collecting three points against Albania next Wednesday will be equally important in terms of our qualification.
Cool heads will be required tomorrow night and we need to outplay Germany not outfight them. Despite the youthful nature of the squad our players all have experience of these big-match occasions and I'm confident we can achieve a positive outcome from the game.
From my experience, I would say that if David survives the fitness test, he should get through tomorrow's game.
I've had a couple of similar tests over the years and they're usually under the guidance of physio Alan Smith - and pretty exhaustive to say the least.
I can remember one such test shortly before the World Cup qualifier against Italy in Rome, where we needed a point to qualify. I had been suffering from a leg muscle injury all week and I hadn't trained, so a test was scheduled.
It took about half an hour and, after an initial warm-up, involved running, checking, turning and then some work with the ball.
With David's groin injury, I expect he will do a fair bit of checking and turning. If he comes through that, I believe he will play the full 90 minutes.
I didn't know anything about today's play-off draw in Zurich until I was told last night but, to be honest, it didn't have too much impact in the camp.
You have to be single-minded in this game and the play-offs can wait for another day. If we beat Germany, maybe we won't have to worry about them.
