The Frenchman has promised striker Barry Hayles a role in the away leg and is expected to start with him in the return at Loftus Road on August 27.
Hayles scored a fine solo goal at Sochaux to clinch Fulham's place in the InterToto final, dampening talk of a £2million move to West Brom.
Meanwhile, Fulham are ' optimistic' of signing Cameroon World Cup defender Pierre Wome from Bologna over the weekend.
The 23-year-old has been in London this week for talks and a medical. A second round of discussions was due to take place between Fulham officials and Wome today.
But Fulham's out- of- favour winger Eddie Lewis now looks unlikely to join Preston, who cannot match his wage demands.
North End boss Craig Brown is desperate to land the US international after monitoring him in this summer's World Cup Finals.
Lewis has been frozen out at Fulham, making just one Premiership appearance last season. And Brown is one of the few managers in the First Division with money to spend after the sale of skipper Sean Gregan to West Brom.
But despite needing first-team football to secure his work permit, the left-sided player is in danger of pricing himself out of a move.
Brown said: 'We are trying to accommodate Eddie Lewis's requirements.
'As you can imagine, there is a big difference between the wages paid by Fulham and what we can offer in the First Division. There is a lot of work to be done but it would be unfair to the other players to break our wage structure.'
Meanwhile, Charlton manager Alan Curbishley takes a second look at trialist Antonio Fohla in John Robinson's testimonial against FC Porto on Saturday.
The former Portugal international midfielder, who spent last season on loan at Standard Liege and AEK Athens, impressed in Charlton's 1-0 win over Farnborough on Wednesday night. Curbishley is keen to sign one more player before the Premiership starts on August 17.
