Diego turns his back on Spurs

Tottenham transfer target Diego looks to have been given the all-clear to play in Europe but he appears to have his sights set on bigger clubs than Spurs.

The Brazilian teenager has succeeded in obtaining an Italian passport after paperwork problems delayed a move to White Hart Lane.

However, Spurs will face stiff competition from AC Milan and it is understood the player's father and agent, Djair da Cunha, has rented a house close to the city. He made it clear his son would prefer to join one of Europe's top clubs and Spurs were not among those.

Diego is contracted to Santos until 2005 and admits he is in no great rush to leave even after gaining clearance.

Meanwhile, Spurs handed a new contract to 21-year-old midfielder Johnnie Jackson but refused to say for how long.
