However, Claude Makelele will escape punishment for appearing to over-react when cuffed by Monaco midfielder Andreas Zikos.
As the Frenchman was booked at the time, UEFA rules prevent the incident being referred to the disciplinary panel. The UEFA spokesman said: "The referee saw what happened so we cannot take any action based on video evidence.
"It was a factual decision taken by the referee."
Zikos was sent off following the clash and faces a ban. But the disciplinary committee may consider Makelele's behaviour as a mitigating factor before deciding on the Greek's suspension.
If the red card is viewed as sufficient punishment, Zikos could be available for the second leg.
However, Makelele is banned for the return match at Stamford Bridge as last night's booking was his second of the knockout competition.
John Terry was also booked last night after a foul on the pacy Ludovic Giuly and if he receives another caution in the second leg the defender will miss the final should Chelsea get there.
But Terry will not let fear of suspension affect his approach to the game at Stamford Bridge. He said: "I know I'm on a booking but haven't even thought about missing the final."
Terry insists Chelsea can recover from last night's 3-1 defeat and go through.
The centreback said: "We're not out of the competition yet. There were some big comebacks in the quarterfinals, so that gives us inspiration."
