Svensson should have scored when Poom palmed a centre from Chris Powell straight to him but the striker's shot was deflected past the post. Then a Richard Rufus header was kicked over the bar. But, from Jensen's corner, Svensson was left unmarked and his header deflected off Deon Burton inside a post.
Svensson sent a header just wide before Poom made his vital contribution. First, Parker's long-range drive was turned aside by the flying keeper and, seconds later, Poom leaped backwards to tip Jensen's long-range effort over.
Jensen was running riot and had a 20-yard shot stopped by Poom on 25 minutes as Derby struggled not to be swept away.
They hung on grimly and suddenly drew level after 35 minutes. Parker fouled Burton and, as Charlton keeper Kiely was still lining up his wall, Burley curled the ball around the imperfect structure and into a corner of the net as Kiely scampered across goal too late to prevent the equaliser.
Suddenly, Derby began to look more solid and they should have taken the lead from the penalty spot two minutes before half-time when Kiely committed a clumsy foul on striker Malcolm Christie.
The Derby forward needed treatment and Kiely was booked, but he dived brilliantly to his right to keep out Burley's strongly hit penalty.
