Whether Defoe can wait that long is not clear. Asked about Spurs' European prospects, he said: "I don't know. It's going to be difficult because there are so many good teams in the Premiership and every game is hard, but the club is pushing on and we will see what happens. All I can do now is keep playing and let my football do the talking. Whatever happens happens, but to play in the Champions League would be a dream come true."
