Davies insists he's happy at Spurs

Simon Davies today made it clear he had no rift with Tottenham manager Glenn Hoddle and that he has no intention of quitting the club.

Hoddle returned from holiday this week to discover that Davies was alleged to be unhappy at White Hart Lane and wanted out. The Welsh midfielder was supposed to have informed him of his decision in a showdown meeting.

But Hoddle denied such a discussion had taken place and now Davies wants to put the record straight. The player, a target for champions Manchester United last season, said: "I don't know where this has come from but there is no truth in me wanting to leave Spurs.

"I am happy at the club and would not have signed a five-year contract last season if I wasn't. I have never thought about leaving. I have not had a meeting with the manager or told him that I want to go. I think Spurs can go on and be a great club and I want to be part of it."

Davies is more concerned with starting the new season off at the top of his form.

He added: "I was disappointed with the form I showed after Christmas but I think it was the whole team, not just me. I wasn't playing well.

"I want to prove that I can rediscover the form I showed when I first got into the team."

Davies also insisted there was no problem with Hoddle's man-management. He said: "Everything is fine but then I was in the team. He is the manager and we have to do what he says. There is no problem as far as I am concerned.
