Davenport seals switch to West Ham

Tottenham are set to spark a row with Coventry City after today agreeing to loan new signing Calum Davenport to West Ham.

Coventry were understood to be unhappy at the proposed deal last week but Spurs have now confirmed that the centre-half will move to Upton Park for three months.

The England Under-21 defender, who joined Spurs for £3million, will continue to train occasionally at Spurs Lodge.

Frank Arnesen, the club's sporting director, said: "It was important that Calum went on loan to a club where he would get first-team football to enhance his experience. It was equally important that the move was to a London-based club so that he would not have to relocate again and would be able to train with us on an occasional basis.

"This will enable him to get to know the other lads and more about Tottenham. As such this arrangement has many mutual benefits."

West Ham have injury problems in defence with Christian Dailly sidelined by a knee injury while Anton Ferdinand's left leg was badly bruised during the England Under-21 game against Poland on Tuesday.
